What is Kappa Phi Kappa?
Kappa Phi Kappa is a national professional co-ed fraternity in education devoted to the professional development of its members through the activities and opportunities for mutual association provided by the local chapter and the National General Assembly.
What Does Kappa Phi Kappa Do?
Kappa Phi Kappa is dedicated to serving the university and Columbus community through the many service projects that are organized each quarter. Kappa Phi Kappa strives to make members aware of the teacher education requirements mandated by the state of Ohio, as well as the entrance requirements for the Masters of Education program at Ohio State. Active members have more opportunities to gain valuable leadership experience, as well as build their résumés to make them appealing to masters of education programs.
What Are Benefits of Joining Kappa Phi Kappa?
Service and Leadership Opportunities:
At numerous times each quarter, Kappa Phi Kappa provides great opportunities for community service. In the past, Kappa Phi Kappa has served Children’s Hospital, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, NBC’s 4’s Army for Kids, Adopt-A-Family, and the Faith Mission Shelter. KPK additionally aids the university community through co-sponsoring TargeTeach, the Graduate School Expo, the Colleges of Education Fair and Teach Ohio with the College of Education. Kappa Phi Kappa is deeply committed to service.
Networking Opportunities:
Members of Kappa Phi Kappa have a greater chance at success with the opportunity to speak to KPK alumni currently in OSU’s Masters of Education program. Past and present members are very willing to advise undergraduates and answer questions to prospective M.Ed candidates.
You will also be able to hear speakers, from a broad spectrum of education occupations, with whom you will be able to discuss the many possibilities for your future in the field of education. These speakers are faculty and staff in the College of Education, current administrators from area public schools, and teachers from virtually every grade level and subject area.
Kappa Phi Kappa encourages members to attend social events designed to allow students to interact. Many times at Ohio State, undergraduates feel lost when it comes to earning a teaching license. Meeting other education students in your field can help make the process seem clearer, and can serve as a resource for information and understanding. When education students are spread out throughout the university, it is helpful to know how and where to reach students like you. Kappa Phi Kappa sponsors social events each quarter to help members get to know each other and develop professional and personal relationships.
Scholarship Opportunities:
The annual Kappa Phi Kappa scholarship is available to members of Junior and Senior standing who have been active for at least two quarters.
