Alpha Eta Chapter Policies Regarding: Initiation, Member Requirements and Honors Recognition
To be initiated into the chapter:
1. Each candidate must accumulate three (3) points which can be earned by doing any three of the following:
2. Prospective initiates should attend an informational meeting after the third regular meeting of the quarter, and inform the pledge chair of their intent to be initiated.
3. Initiates MUST pay $55 in dues
4. Initiates MUST attend initiation, which is held during the last meeting of each quarter.
To maintain “active” member status in the chapter:
Each member must earn six points each quarter, AND MUST pay $20 in dues by the 2nd meeting of each quarter (if dues are not paid by the second meeting, then the amount is raised). These points can easily be accumulated by doing the following:
Honors Recognition Opportunities
To join the Kappa Phi Kappa Honors List:
Kappa Phi Kappa Honor Roll:
If a member earns honors list status for any 3 consecutive quarters (excluding summer), she/he will be added to the highly regarded Kappa Phi Kappa Honor Roll. The member’s name will be engraved onto a plaque that hangs in the College of Education in Arps Hall.
Kappa Phi Kappa Roll of Distinction
If a member earns honors list status for any 6 consecutive quarters (excluding summer), she/he will be added to the highly regarded Kappa Phi Kappa Roll of Distinction. The member’s name will be engraved onto a separate plaque that hangs in the College of Education in Arps Hall. Members will also be recognized at the annual banquet, to which the dean of the College of Education is invited.
BENEFITS:
In the event that a member cannot earn active member status:
The Probation Option: If a member fails to meet the minimum requirements for active membership, she/he will receive an email informing them of their impending inactive status. The member will be granted a grace period of one quarter, during which she/he must commit to meet the minimum requirements. If, after that grace period, the member again fails to meet the requirements, she/he will be put on an inactive list, and will no longer be considered an active member of the chapter. However, she/he will still be a member of the fraternity at large. For example, if a member does not earn 6 points in the arrangement described above during Winter Quarter, s/he will be given the opportunity to meet the regular requirements in Spring Quarter and will be on “probation”. If, after Spring Quarter, the member again fails to meet the requirements, s/he will be considered “inactive” in the chapter, but active in the fraternity at large.
The Non-Probation Option: If a member cannot attend the 3 required meetings due to class, work, or illness, AND does not wish to go on probation, she/he must inform the vice president of this by the second meeting of the quarter. In the case of class or work conflicts, documentation should be provided. In the case of illness, the member should inform the vice president as soon as it is evident that s/he will not be able to attend 3 meetings. Some documentation should also be provided. In this extreme case, a member may choose to earn any two additional points in place of a meeting point. This can be done during the quarter in question or the next quarter. For example, suppose a member’s work schedule demanded that s/he could not attend at least 3 meetings during winter quarter, but could attend the other 2 meetings. The member would need to inform the vice president of this by the 2nd meeting of the quarter. Since the member would miss one meeting, s/he must earn 2 points to compensate for that lost meeting. The member could arrange to make up the points in winter quarter or spring quarter. If the member did not make up the points by spring quarter, s/he would be considered inactive in the chapter, but active in the fraternity at large.
In the event that a member is unable to pay dues: In extreme cases a member may not be able to pay the quarterly dues. If this happens, she/he may write a letter to the treasurer explaining the situation and requesting a payment plan. This must be submitted by the second meeting of the quarter. Doing this will remove the late payment penalty. A second option will be for the member to brainstorm, organize, and implement an additional fundraiser for KPK. This is done with the expectation that the fundraiser will earn at least $20 to compensate for the lost dues. A member can choose to go on probation if she/he does not wish to complete one of the above options.
